Using a magnetic field, magnetic particle examination is done this way. A ferromagnetic mineral is used by magnetic field to apply it to iron particles. The flow of the area will be affected by the surface and near surface area causing the particles to gather in the location of the leakage.

The final method is penetrant examination. This is preformed using dye solution and is applied to the surface. Once that has happened, the dye will penetrate any breakable cavity. The excess solution should be taken out of the object. With different visible dyes, a contrast of colors between the penetrant make the bleed out easy to see.
