Top Tips For Proper Organization In Self Storage Stouffville Unit

By Virginia Graham

If you have hired out a store, so as to keep your extra belongings, you need to organize it well. This will make it easier for you to locate your stuff whenever you need it. A well organized space will also ensure that your things are properly kept and that they do not get damaged. Here are some tips that you can use when organizing your self storage Stouffville unit.

You need to plan in advance how you want the store to be laid out. That means that you should know what you want even before you take your things down to the store. Since you will have already visited the store and seen its layout, you can plan accordingly. Have a mental plan of what you will do. Keep in mind that you will also need to include rat traps and moth balls in your plan, if you don't want rats and other pests to destroy your things.

What you use to package your thing is essential. Even though throwing your things into garbage bags seems a lot easier, it will make it harder for you to stack them up once you get to the storeroom. Plastic bins and boxes will hold up much better compared to plastic bags. Plastic bags also have the disadvantage of getting moist, especially if the air in the room is warm. This will lead to mildew forming in the bags and affecting your stored items.

All your boxes should have a tag that clearly states what's in them. These tags should be on all sides of the boxes, plus the top too. This way, you can easily tell what is inside each box. Place less used items at the back and the things that you are more likely to use at the front. In addition, create an aisle through room.

When stacking up boxes, make sure that the heavier stuff is at the bottom of the room. Then put up lighter boxes on top of it. Fill up each box to the brim, so that it doesn't collapse or tilt at an angle when things are put on top of it. Keep in mind to leave a path through the room, so that you can easily walk to the back and to the sides to get stuff.

When storing electrical equipment, make sure that they are completely dry. The freezer should be defrosted. Store the fridge with the doors slightly open. Drain fluids from any equipment. Rub down machines and tools with oil to prevent them from rusting.

If there are shelves in the space, make sure to utilize them. It will help you have lots of space to put things. If you are storing furniture, dismantle them first, so as to create more space. Just make sure that you know how to put them together first. Also, put the nuts and bolts in an easily accessible and well labeled place. Stuff things in the hollow spaces between the furniture. For instance, stuff boxes inside the wardrobe or fridge.

Keep everything well packaged. Don't leave anything just lying around, as it will gather dust with time. If you want to wrap up things, use papers or pieces of cloth instead of polythene bags. Polythene will encourage formation of moisture, which can lead to mildew forming on things.
